¿Quienes Somos?

Somos un grupo de amigos, quienes compartimos el afecto por los barriletes, teniendo por misión promover la construcción y vuelo de barriletes durante todo el año.
Comenzamos a reunirnos en el año 1997 y continuamos haciéndolo todos los domingos a la mañana en el Paseo de la Costa, ubicado en la calle Güemes y la costa del Río de la Plata, en la localidad de Vicente López, muy cerca de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Este lugar ofrece las condiciones para desarrollar nuestra actividad con comodidad, viento casi constante y lugar para todos.

¿Qué hacemos?

Ba.To.Co. convoca a personas comunes que, "con el niño adentro" se reúnen en parques y plazas para dar rienda suelta a su creatividad e ingenio y... volar barriletes en Argentina. Ba.To.Co. reúne a los aficionados, organizando o colaborando en eventos en los que los barriletes son su principal propósito o su nota de color; grandes modelos pintados por artistas, demostraciones, talleres de construcción, vuelo en escuelas, clubes, etc., además de desarrollar sus propios proyectos, que surgen de la creatividad, el talento y la habilidad de sus miembros. Ba.To.Co. ha trascendido lo social y recreativo para transformarse en un conjunto de actividades culturales y educativas que, si bien están orientadas hacia la construcción y el vuelo de barriletes, son mucho más amplias y diversas.

¿Barriletes?

El barrilete, el maravilloso juego y juguete de nuestra infancia es hoy, en casi todo el mundo, objeto de arte, deporte y elemento educativo para la enseñanza de las ciencias.

Arte milenario de Japón, China, África y Oceanía, se ha convertido en material de serios estudios étnicos y culturales por parte de investigadores, educadores y antropólogos. Una rica bibliografía sobre todos sus aspectos, da cuentas de cuan profundamente esta actividad ha calado en la cultura de la recreación y el tiempo libre en las sociedades contemporáneas.

A lo largo de la historia, los barriletes ayudaron al desarrollo de la meteorología y la aviación. Estas experiencias quedaron registradas en viejos planos y fotos, que algunos de nuestros integrantes intentan rescatar del olvido con el fin de recrear aquellos modelos, utilizando nuevos materiales diseñados para la industria naval y aeronáutica, y que fueron adoptados para su uso en los barriletes. La fibra de carbono, fibra de vidrio y telas especiales, abren un mundo de posibilidades y logran que estos modelos sean un elemento de permanente creación y regocijo, sin limitaciones de forma, color y tamaño. De esta manera, surgen infinidad de nuevas versiones, algunas de las cuales son únicas por su calidad de construcción y fidelidad a los modelos originales.

Sin dejar de lado el aspecto lúdico y plástico de este hobby, podemos ver barriletes pintados con distintas técnicas, o que utilizan elaborados métodos en su confección. El aspecto deportivo tiene su espacio, con modelos para vuelo acrobático o dirigido, esto es, barriletes de dos o más hilos que permiten el dominio de su trayectoria con el fin de realizar maniobras de acrobacia, en forma individual o en equipo. También es posible la tracción de vehículos con barriletes, tanto en tierra como en agua, pudiendo desarrollar grandes velocidades y distancias.

Además se pueden realizar combates, siendo estos emocionantes y muy atractivos. Se pueden agregar cámaras fotográficas o de video con las cuales se logran interesantes tomas aéreas. Se puede intentar batir los más de 3.000 metros de altura del récord mundial con un barrilete o construir el más grande... o el más pequeño... o sólo remontar un barrilete por el placer de hacerlo...Es un juego colectivo y un proyecto cultural que se inventa a sí mismo todo el tiempo.

About Us

We are a group of friends who share a passion for kites. Our mission is to promote kite building and flying year round. We started to get together in 1997. These days, we meet every Sunday morning in the 'Paseo de la Costa', a park located on the shores of the 'Rio de la Plata'. This park is located in Vicente Lopez, at the end of Guemes street, a town very close to Buenos Aires. On this location, we are able to pursue our activities at leisure, with nearly constant wind and plenty of space for everyone.

Our activities

BATOCO attracts an otherwise regular group of people, who are still kids at heart. We meet in parks and squares throughout Argentina to unleash our creativity and ingenuity by flying kites. BATOCO enlists kite fans, who organize or take part in events featuring kites as main attraction, or with kites adding a colorful note. For instance, flying kites painted by artists, kite assembly workshops and kite shows in schools and clubs. In addition, BATOCO members follow their own independent projects, arising from their creativity, talents and skills. As an organization, BATOCO has expanded beyond the purely recreational and socializing structures to become an assembly of cultural and educational activities; while it focuses on building and flying kites, it scopes are wider and more diverse.

About Kites

Kites, those wonderful toys of our childhood, can be found today all over the world as artistic objects, educational tools for the teaching of natural sciences, and featured in sport activities. Kites were an art form in ancient Japan, China, Africa and Oceania. They've been the subject of ethnic and cultural studies by researchers and teachers. A rich literature about kites exists today, attesting to the relevance of kites in today's recreational activities.

Throughout history, kites have helped in the development of Meteorology and Aviation. These experiences have been documented in graphs and pictures. Some of our members are involved in bringing back those old models; this time, however, using elements recently developed by the aerospace industry and adapted to be used in kites. Actually, the use of materials such as carbon and glass fibers and synthetic fabrics have opened up a world of possibilities. Models incorporation these materials have far fewer shape, size and color limitations, bringing a renewed sense of joy and excitement to kite fans.

Some kites incorporate a double set of reins, which allow a better control and as a consequence, the possibility of performing acrobatic maneuvers. Combats among kites are performed, which can be very thrilling. It is possible to pull vehicles using kites, both on land and water, achieving fast velocities and long distances. Kites can be fitted with photo or video cameras to record aerial views. Some people fly kites to break the altitude world record, about 3000 meters; some others try to build the biggest, or the smallest; and some people simply fly kites for the pleasure of doing it. It is a collective game and cultural project that keeps on reinventing itself.
