¡This time, 8,000 souls watched our kites fly!
The XXVII Child’s Day Festival was held on Sunday, August 12, at the Luna Park Arena. The event was organized by the Asociación Cerealista de Buenos Aires – A.C.B.A. (Cereal Association from Buenos Aires), and they invited us to participate.
It was an excellent show, and, on this occasion, we could perform our demo on the main stage, formally included in the official program.
BaToCo supported our friend Dr. Rubén Sosa’s project, “Preventing Children’s Accidents at Home”, this year, too.
There was a big crowd present, nearly 8,000 persons. This time, the number of spectators climbed 23% versus previous year.
The program was as follows:
- Welcome by Organizers
- Access to Luna Park
- Band from the Army School of Campo de Mayo
- Preventing Children’s Accidents at Home
- Acrobatic Kite Flight Without Wind
- Show: ‘El País del No me Acuerdo’ (The Country With No Memory)
- Argentina Ballet
- Murga de Belgrano (band of street musicians)
Welcome by Organizers:
We were welcomed by the organizers with a breakfast. I particularly wish to thank my friend Raúl Luoni –President of the Asociación Cerealista de Buenos Aires- for having invited us to such an important Event.
Around 09:00 a.m., children started arriving from different places. Teachers, parents, members of the Asociación Cerealista greeted them, and handed over a bag with candies and juices to them.
Little by little, the arena was surrounded by a joyful atmosphere.
It is fantastic to see the Luna Park full of children, anxiously waiting for the show to start. You can watch them shouting, clapping, smiling, jumping and running through the corridors.
Some BaToCo members delivered brochures, others placed banners, while others helped Roberto Cassanello and me to mount our kites. On this opportunity, Roberto and I flew together in a team..
Band from the Army School of Campo de Mayo :
The show started with the Band, which entered the arena to the rhythm of its marches. People welcomed them with a warm applause, and their members quickly lined up on the stage.
Everybody stood up to sing our National Hymn and, then, sit down and enjoyed the marches and songs of their repertory.
Preventing Children’s Accidents at Home:
Our charismatic friend Dr. Rubén Sosa, has been working for years on preventing damages in children’s health.
On this occasion, he told us how to prevent accidents at Home. He focused particularly on the accidents that toddlers are likely to have.
“Parents should pay special attention on prevention with their newborns and kids up to 5 years old”. He also reminded grown-ups tips for preventing AIDS, drugs and cigarette consumption.
The whole stadium including adults, said again:
"NO drugs, no cigarettes, YES to life"
BaToCo Acrobatic Kite Flight Demo Without Wind:
We prepared two exhibitions: Individual and In Pairs, announced by the presenter.
By the way, I’d like to tell you that two years ago, nobody prepared this type of flight routines for demo. Remember that last year Gabriel Acosta and me flew a Quad and Double line routine at the Luna Park XXVI Festival.
After that, John Barresi gave us a flight clinic in Comodoro Rivadavia, Province of Chubut, in December, 2006.
This year, I’ve been lucky to share it with some of my friends, also interested in this type of flight, who could make it.
Up to now, we are five: Roberto Cassanello, Héctor Cesaretti, Pablo Machiavello, Gabrile Acosta and … me.
My friend Roberto learnt quite fast with 4 lines. It’s incredible such progress in so little time. The formula: perseverance and stubbornness… Roberto, dale gas!
That’s why we decided to fly in pairs at the Luna.
Yet, I must tell you that we couldn’t fly... I felt somewhat upset about it, in fact.Wondering why? Because there was little space on the stage… And what about the corridor, like last year? There was no space there, either. The Luna was full.
What did we do, then? Roberto told me: Don’t worry, we’ll do it next time. You must fly alone.
So, I made up a combination of Quad Line and Multiple Kite. Without wind. Still, there wasn’t much space to fly Multiple. Finally, Roberto told me: Fly “El Cóndor Pasa” with the Revo + the Y2 with one hand. And so I did, following his advice.
Look at the video I would like to tell you that my friend Gabriel Acosta designed the Y2 kite, and it turned out to be so good that it is ideal to fly Multiple Kite without wind. On my next article I will comment my experience with it.
The music began to sound. In silence, the audience watched attentively the imaginary 4-line “Cóndor”, but when the music changed its rhythm, I started to fly the Y2 –the little “Cóndor”- and the whole public clapped to the rhythm. Marvelous!
El País del No me acuerdo (The Country With No Memory)
:The show is based on María Elena Walsh’s songs http://www.me.gov.ar/efeme/mewalsh/ combined with a choreography in tone with them. Acrobats, clowns and trapeze artists acted. (see video) Pictures 8 & 16
Argentina Ballet:
Formed by artists who, through dancing, spread out our traditions. Their repertory include zamba, cueca, gato, bailecito and other traditional rhythms. The ballet dances following the music, playing bass drums and using bolas, as a potent expression of our cultural folklore.
Murga de Belgrano
(Band of street musicians):As you may remember, the “Murga” is a piece of music developed for the Carnivals celebrated during the XIX Century. The basic rhythms were originated in Africa. The band members play their different bass drums and cymbals, while dancing freely to the music rhythm. We can particularly watch them on Buenos Aires streets, being their main objective to get the audience dancing with them. I’ve seen some of them inside and outside the Luna, they danced free of prejudices…
Coming next!
